AI in Drug Discovery: The Rise of Multi-Agent Systems
Plausible or Proven? The Risk of Overgeneralizing Prior Knowledge

Date: October 23rd
Time: 3.00 PM – 4.00 PM CEST
45-minutes session + 15-minutes Q&A
A new approach to drug discovery in which multiple LLM agents collaborate as a virtual scientific team: one generates therapeutic hypotheses, others challenge them, and a moderator synthesizes the evidence into a final prediction. Applied to Alzheimer’s disease, this framework identifies promising drug combinations.
But the real question goes beyond performance: can a plausible AI-generated hypothesis become reliable biological knowledge? The study opens a broader discussion about hallucinations, bias in biomedical literature, data scarcity, experimental validation, and the trade-off between discovering more candidates and avoiding costly false positives.
