Italprogetti integrates into its leather drying systems an AI solution for time prediction, developed by Kode

Pisa, September 24, 2025 – Kode, a software development company specialized in Artificial Intelligence and data-driven solutions, has developed for Italprogetti (a manufacturer of machinery for the tanning, food, paper, and oil & gas sectors) a software for predicting leather drying times. Integrated with the existing data collection infrastructure, this AI-based software provides updated forecasts of drying duration in minutes, allowing tanneries to optimize their operations.

In the highly competitive leather industry, where client companies (often major fashion brands) increasingly demand tighter timelines and precise coordination of deliveries, optimizing production time and costs has become a priority.

For this reason, Italprogetti decided to add extra value to its machinery by leveraging the potential of Artificial Intelligence. Tanneries using their equipment will have access to more advanced and efficient machines, enabling them to achieve—with less effort—the high-quality output that has long distinguished the Santa Croce-Ponte a Egola leather district in Tuscany.

The goal is to complement the quality of traditional production with tools that enable predictive and optimized management of the processing stages.
The system developed by Kode does not merely correlate the weight of the hides with their moisture level, but also integrates contextual variables such as temperature and humidity (both inside and outside the drying chamber) to provide more accurate estimates.

The Artificial Intelligence algorithm has been designed to update continuously: as it collects new data, it refines the predictive model, adapting to seasonal factors and the specific characteristics of the production process.

The entire solution operates directly on-edge, on the machinery itself, thanks to integration with the existing OPC UA infrastructure. In this way, data processing and prediction generation occur locally, without the need for a constant connection to external systems.

The system is already in operation at the Antiba tannery, where it is installed on Italprogetti machinery and used daily to improve the planning of processing cycles and more reliably meet delivery deadlines.

Marco Calderisi, CEO of Kode, states: “With this application, we have managed to transform a type of data that seems simple to handle into highly valuable information for those managing the drying process. However, we do not intend to stop here; in fact, we are already looking at the next development phase: integrating predictions of the energy impact of drying cycles. This advancement will provide companies with further opportunities for optimization—both operationally, in terms of energy savings, and environmentally.”
